Signs and Symptoms of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction occurs when the pelvic floor muscles are weak, tight, or imbalanced, leading to difficulty performing its normal functions. Pelvic Floor muscles play a crucial role in supporting the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs. These muscles also help control urinary and bowel functions. Identifying the signs early can help with recovery. Common signs of pelvic floor dysfunction include:

Urinary Issues

  • Frequent urination or an urgent need to urinate
  • Inability to completely empty the bladder
  • Urinary incontinence or leakage, especially when coughing, sneezing, or exercising
  • Painor discomfort during urination

Bowel Problems

  • Constipation or straining to pass stool
  • Feeling of incomplete bowel emptying
  • Fecal incontinence or accidental leakage of stool
  • Painful bowel movements

SI Joint Dysfunction or Pelvic Pain

  • Pain or pressure in the pelvic region
  • Pain during or after intercourse
  • Painin the lower back, hips, or abdomen

Muscle Weakness or Tightnes

  • Difficulty with pelvic muscle control, leading to issues with core stability

What Causes Pelvic Floor Dysfunction?

Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) occurs when the muscles in the pelvic region are unable to coordinate properly to perform their normal functions. The pelvic floor muscles hold up your internal organs.
